20 THINGS I’VE LEARNED BEFORE TURNING 20

Happy Thursday!

Hope your having a great week so far. As some of you may know, I just turned 20 this week!

Over the years I’ve learned so many things that I wish I knew sooner & wanted to share some of them with you! So here is 20 things I’ve learned before turning 20.

1. Don’t stress the little things.

– I know everything in life may not go as planned, especially this past year but why dwell on the little things instead of focusing on the bigger picture. I believe that good can come out of everything.

2. Surround yourself with good.

– This can be anything. Good food , good experiences, good people. Surround yourself with the things that build your life up, and make it better. Stop wasting your time with people who do not have good intentions or path that you do.

3. Be mindful.

-Everyone isn’t going to have the same views as you. They may not think the same, but be mindful of their feelings and treat others as you want to be treated. You never know what someone else is going through.

4. Do something with your life that makes you happy.

– The saying you only live once, it’s true . That means you get one chance to do what makes you happy. If you do not love the life you’re living , it might be the time to change that.

5. Make a routine.

– Whatever it may be, making your bed in the morning, prepping your food for the next day, or simply drinking more water.

6. Get sleep.

-Try your very best to get 8 hours a sleep, there are so many benefits to getting a good nights sleep aside from being less tired.

7. Cherish the time you have with friends or ones you love

-I definitely took advantage of all the time I had spent with my friends. We would hang out almost everyday, and now most of them are off in different states or cities and I don’t get to see them very often.

8. Focus on your goals

-Take it day by day, but do whatever it takes to achieve your goals. It may not happen right away, but be patient & persistent and you will succeed.

9. Don’t let others ruin your happiness

-I’ve learned over the years, that in retrospect of my life, middle and high school are just a portion of the plan. Yes you have good memories, but half the people you will most likely never see again. Don’t let others influence the way you view yourself. You are enough.

10. Start Saving!

-No matter what age you are, it’s never too late to start saving your money. I didn’t realize how important it was to save all that you can. It’s not bad to treat yourself every once in a while, but make sure your little $5,$10,$15 purchases are truly worth it. If you get a money as a gift, or side job. Put half the amount away and do what you want with the other.

11. You have to love yourself, before anyone else can love you.

-You have to know your self worth, and understand how to love yourself. If you can’t even love yourself , how do you expect someone else to love you?

12. Go outside!

-Try and get some fresh air everyday! I aim to get in around 8,000-10,000 steps, it’s really good for your digestion, mental & physical health.

13. Clean up your space.

– I believe a clean space equals a clean mind. I always try and leave my space clean before I start my day.

14. Use a planner.

-Staying organized is what helps me have a successful day. I write down my weekly goals, tasks, homework, ect. It keeps me from not missing an appt, meeting, or assignment and overall makes my day less stressful.

15. Don’t be worried if you don’t know what your going to do with your life.

-Growing up I’m sure we all have gotten asked the same questions, “what do you want to be when you grow up, what major are you going into, or what career do you want to have?” I still do not know exactly what I want to do, and that’s ok for Me. It takes time, it takes trail an error, and It takes patience. After all, you are trying to find something you love to do.

16. Remove toxic people & things from your life.

-Don’t waste your time and effort on people who do not want the very best for you.

17. Material things will never make you truly happy.

-A new car, fancy boat, or big house will only satisfy you for so long. It will be the people, relationships, and love that will make the difference in your life.

18. Make every moment count.

-Life goes by faster than you think, do it now, so you won’t regret not doing it later. The longer you wait to start something the harder it becomes to start.

19. Fuel your body with healthy food.

-It’s so important to take care of yourself. Remember, you only get one body. I’m not saying you can’t enjoy some of the things you love, but just do it in moderation. Invest in your health & thank me later.

20. Always stay humble & kind.

-It’s really not that hard. Simply open the door for someone, send a text saying have a good day, or pay it forward at a drive thru! No matter what, remember where you came from, who helped you get there, and how you can do it for someone else.

As always, be the best version of you.
