If you’re reading this I want you to know it’s for a reason.
You may be thinking, I want to make a lifestyle change but I don’t know where to start. Well, that’s what I’m here for. Today I will be discussing how to start your fitness journey and why it will be the best thing that’s ever happened to you.

DO IT NOW. IF NOT TODAY, WHEN
We have all come up with excuses as to why we will start tomorrow, next week, next year, but those phrases could be an ongoing cycle that never ends. If you are going to change yourself, you have to change your lifestyle and what better day then today.
Ok, let’s start off simple….. WALK. I know it seems crazy, but just walk. It could be going to the mailbox, up and down the street, or a lap around the park. Getting in your steps can be one of the easiest ways to start living a healthy lifestyle. It gives you a chance to get your heart rate up, and some alone time from a stressful day. Instead of sitting in front of the TV, you could watch it on the screen of a treadmill. You’d be surprised how many steps you get in without even noticing. I aim to get in 8,000-10,000 steps, but don’t worry that doesn’t have to be you right away. You need to start out with small, realistic goals….
GIVING YOURSELF SMALL ,REALISTIC GOALS
You have to give yourself goals that are realistic and achievable. For example, let’s say you want to loose 100 pounds. Well, you are not going to start out with that goal. You will say, “I want to loose 5 pounds in a month.” This will then help you to not get discouraged quickly. I challenge you to make a list of your goals for the month. It could be drinking a certain amount of water each day, getting this many steps in, or getting a certain clothing item to fit. Once you have gathered your list of things I want you to write next to it the reasons you’re doing it. Why are you trying to start this journey, to become healthier, to get strong, or just overall feel better. WRITE IT DOWN. Now, every day your going to look at your list and then why you are doing it. I promise this makes a difference. Set new goals for yourself each week, write down small achievements, and do it for you.
BE PATIENT AND CONSISTENT
One of the most important parts about starting a fitness journey is knowing it’s not going to change in a day. This will take some time, and that is ok because the important part is that you understand this process. I’ve noticed since starting my fitness journey is that consistency makes all the difference. You may not notice it, but every day you’re improving. If you’re sticking to certain days to workout, Stick to those days. It is key to be consistent with your foods and workouts to actual see change. I posted another blog about meal prep and that has truly helped me stay consistent with my food!
NO MORE DIETS …HOW TO EAT HEALTHY AND ENJOY IT
Ok, let’s get one thing straight. Cutting out carbs is not the answer. Cutting out a certain food group is not the answer. Not eating…. is not the answer. When we try and fix something too quickly you may see results, but they will not last and you will end gaining it all back and more.
First off, you can’t eliminate all the foods you love. Were going to begin by talking about portion control and calories. Now I know calories can be a touchy subject for some, but it can be very important to recognize the amount you are eating vs what’s healthy. Let’s say you know you’re going out to an Italian restaurant and you really want that pasta dish. Try to not eat less, but focus on high protein, Whole Foods, for your other meals throughout the day. Then, when dinner rolls around you can eat maybe half the dish instead of the whole thing, and prioritize getting full on those protein and veggies. As long as you try and cut down on your portion sizes “in a healthy way” this is great first step.
My other big tip, is to create the foods you love, but just in a healthier way! I know there is some amazing chick pea pastas that taste just as good. You can you sugar free sauces, low fat cheeses, and any other substitutions and trust me you won’t even notice.
If you have a sweet tooth like me, invest in brands such as Halo Top, Yasso, or even carb smart. They all taste so yummy and give you the satisfaction you need.
BE THE BEST VERSION OF YOU
The most important tip I have to give you is do it for you. The reason you’re starting this journey in the first place needs to be you. Not to impress others, or because someone told you to. It needs to be a choice you make so that you will do it with all you’ve got. I’ve said this in every blog, but Be The Best Version Of You. I believe this is so important. You have once chance in life to be the absolute best you can be. Would you rather look at yourself in 6 months and say “wow, look what I could’ve done” or would you rather say “Wow, look what I’ve accomplished for myself.” It’s all up to you. You can either start now, or wait, but when’s the waiting going to end?
